
Tammy Skiver Maxson was born in Olean, New York in 1971. Maxson’s art is classified as Agroecological art. Using natural interventions that include many modalities of aesthetic processes both above and below ground. She works to heal soil, inspire conservation, and regenerative practices in the community.

Tenderness for the environment, and oneness with nature is foremost to her practice. This is especially true of The Orchard Project, in this project, Maxson is a participant in the co-creation of assembling a living sculpture above and the creating living soil below. The Orchard Project an aesthetic response to needs of a place, a symbiotic relationship with nature, and an act of reclamation of healthy soil. It is a site-specific art installation that promotes multispecies justice, and focuses on soil health
Working both in outside the art community, Maxson has focused on nature, conservation, and education in all her pursuits. Combining these different disciplines into one interdisciplinary practice as an artist, naturalist, writer, curriculum designer, and educator.
Obtaining a degree in art education from the University of Edinboro in 1993, she has been an educator for over 25 years. She also pursued a masters in Instructional Media from Wilkes University in Pennsylvania. In 2022 she received her Master of Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston.
