August Review 2020

Permaculture Earthworks Project Original Design

Original Permaculture Earthworks concept is a combination of aquaculture, hügelkultur, and permaculture in an interconnected design. Each element of the design feeds the next. The bases of the design layout came from the Flower of Life concepts and sacred geometry.

Milkweed Sketch

This sketch is a study for future paintings that demonstrate elements of permaculture design. The plan for the future paintings is a golden ratio of 59.3 inches x 36.6 inches. Part of my process in composition is to determine the golden mean prior to starting the sketch or plein air painting.

Milkweed Plein Air Painting on White Ground

This painting is 10 inches x 20 inches plein air study for a future large studio painting.

Revised Permaculture Earthworks Project

The revised design was redesigned with the seed of life layout for a permaculture orchard. The design is 32 feet across with a center white crabapple tree which will pollinate the dwarf apple trees on the end of each petal. The entire design is surrounded with a water harvesting swale/ditch.

Permaculture Earthworks Project Mind Map

This mind map of the permaculture earthwork project reflects the project over the next two years. After two years the earthworks orchard will be self-sustaining for generations.

Milkweed Plein Air Study on Red Ground

This painting is 10 inches x 20 inches plein air study for a future large studio painting. Milkweed is ecologically vital to the Earth’s insect population; it’s inclusion in this design reflects the decline in insect vitality and variety within the past few decades.

Bees and Winter Squash Study

This painting is a 12 inches x 24 inches painting of Comfrey or Bone Mend. This plant has been used medicinally to by our local Amish community to heal broken bones. This a study for a large 59.3 inches x 36.6 inches painting I plan to create this winter.
